The composition of water meter product models is generally as follows:

Section 1 is represented by capital Chinese Pinyin letters. The first position indicates the major category the product belongs to, which is the flow instrument category that water meters fall under, represented by "L". The second position indicates the sub-category the product belongs to, which is the water meter, represented by "X". The third and fourth positions indicate the product's working principle, structure, function, and characteristics. Detailed regulations are shown in Table 1-1.

Table 1-1: Meaning of Symbols in Water Meter Model Designation:

Section 2 is represented by Arabic numerals and letters. This section reflects the water meter's nominal diameter (Nominal Size), the type of indicating device (Register Type), and the product's design sequence number (for Rotary Vane Water Meters), among other things.

In the design sequence number:

A stands for the Basic Model, seven-digit pointer, combined impeller, and 1 L scale (minimum verifiable division).

B stands for the combined impeller, eight-digit pointer, and 1 L minimum verifiable division.

C stands for the integrated impeller, eight-digit pointer, and 0.1 L minimum verifiable division.

E stands for the integrated impeller, a counter combining four-digit pointers and four-digit number wheels, and 0.1 L minimum verifiable division.

Note: The Type A meter was the first improved design of the original unified design meter. It is now classified as an obsolete product and is no longer in production.

Explanation: The Basic Model water meter is commonly known in the industry as the "Seven-Digit Pointer Water Meter."

Model Examples:

LXS-15C represents a Rotary Vane Water Meter with a 15 mm nominal diameter and the third improved design (integrated impeller, 8-digit pointer).

LXL-80 represents a Horizontal Helix Water Meter with an 80 mm nominal diameter.

LXSL-20E represents a Vertical Rotary Vane Water Meter with a 20 mm nominal diameter.

Explanation of Industry Naming Conventions:

Before 1992, when the water meter industry implemented the production license system, new water meter products required registration and review of their model names by the industry management office, generally following the principles described above. However, management methods have changed in recent years (now utilizing the Manufacturing Measuring Instrument License instead of the original Production License), and as a result of the emergence of many new products, there is some degree of confusion in product model naming among some manufacturers.

This confusion is evident in:

Excessive letters in Section 1 (e.g., LXSGRY-15E, which stands for remote-reading dry-dial hot water meter).

The use of letters with different meanings in the design sequence number position (e.g., the "F" in LXS-15F stands for liquid-sealed, not a design sequence number higher than Type E).

The product model including the manufacturer's code.

For water meter manufacturers who do not adopt industry standards for product model designation, they should create an enterprise standard or internal technical specification to clarify their naming system.

Nominal Diameters and Applications:

15 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm are generally used for household water meters.

40 mm, 50 mm, 80 mm, 100 mm, 150 mm, 200 mm are generally used for industrial or high-consumption users. (Larger diameters include 300 mm, 400 mm...)

The nominal diameter is the diameter of the water meter's inlet and outlet.

Water meters are divided into two movement types: Rotary Vane and Helix (Woltman).

Small, household use typically uses the 15 mm Rotary Vane Water Meter, which is low-cost and easy to repair.
